Berkeley Spark

Saturday, August 10th, 11am-9pm, Civic Center Park

Curious about Burning Man?

Getting ready for your annual sojourn to the Playa?

Want to share in the creativity of Burning Man with your local community?

With two weeks to go, Berkeley Spark is catching fire and we need your help!  On August 10th from 11am to 9pm, “burners,” burner-aspirants, artists, performers, dancers, musicians, and DJs will descend on Civic Center park in downtown Berkeley as they weave together the Burning Man culture and the diverse and creative strands of our local community.  By supporting our Kickstarter project “Berkeley Spark – Bringing Burning Man to Berkeley” we can make this new festival possible.  All donations will support the artists and musicians and their creative efforts.

If you are unable to make a monetary donation, please consider being a volunteer.

Berkeley Spark is an East Bay event connecting the greater Berkeley community and surrounding communities with its ever-evolving arts community.

Inspired by that annual pilgrimage to the Nevada desert, Berkeley Spark is a day-long festival of art, music, dance, acro yoga, and interactive experiences led by local burners and artful East Bay visionaries. Come enjoy the weaving together of Playa culture and the diverse strands of our local community, where the spirit of collaboration and creativity is embraced.

Berkeley Spark is a pre-Burning Man arts and music festival in Downtown Berkeley — FREE and open to the public – with giant art sculptures, mutant vehicles, great live and DJ’ed music, dancing, and fun interactive workshops. Come see amazing Burning Man art and crazy art cars — “mutant vehicles” — before they head to the Nevada desert, including Pongo Lounge’s UNAVERZ car, “Arc of Reflection” from Amy Stabler (Burning Man, 2003), live painting from SF Freespace artist Michael Covington, and interactive painting with ArtIsMobilUs. Dance to the sounds of Bay Area deejays representing several “conscious dance” venues:  Barefoot Boogie with DJ Christina, Soul Sanctuary Dance with DJ dadada on silent disco; Dance Journey with DJ Baron von Spirit; and Ecstatic Dance with DJ Neptune. Listen to local musician Laura Inserra and others! Spark your playa preparations with over forty burn-friendly clothing vendors and accessory designers, lighting specialists and local artists & makers. Refuel during the festival with delicious local food vendors: Phil’s Sliders, Raw Daddy Foods, Taco Oaxaco and Tomales Acapulco.

Parking is limited – please take public transportation, walk, or bike.

Looking for an after-hours gathering? Stop into one of Berkeley’s late-night establishments: Jupiter, Triple Rock Brewery, BUILD Pizzeria, Phil’s Sliders and Revival Bar + Kitchen.
